Mary Poppins pre-purchase exam

Today Dr.Fondrik did a pre-purchase exam on Mary Poppins. The results are:

  1. 18-19 years old owner listed her as 16 years.
  2. hoofs are neglected and need to be slowly put back in shape.Owner stated she was purchased in May.In that time she was trimmed once.
  3. soles are hitting the ground and hoof needs to grow there is not much hoof to work with he felt the feet would improve with proper nutrition and a hoof suppliments so I purchased hoof supplements for her
  4. mild arthritis in the back hocks when placing on a scale from 0-5 her gave it 1/2
  5. can give Bute 1-1.5 tablets as needed for arthritis
  6. mild cataracts 90 % vision not a concern but forming earlier than most horse ponies do at that age.
  7. stated teeth are in good shape

Dr.Fondrik said she would not make a good pony for any type of high performance demands like jumping but would be fine for pleasure riding. He liked her temperament and said with good nutrition and getting her feet back in shape she would be fine for what we plan to use her for so today we officially purchased Mary Poppins and are making plans to bring her home.

Merry Christmas Angelina!

Plan of action:

  1. purchase hoof boots
  2. begin trimming
  3. get her on loose minerals, vitamins, and hoof supplement
  4. slowly introducing her to the herd & pasture since was mainly stall kept

Mary Poppins history. She was originally owned and trained by the Amish to ride & drive. Then she was used as a pleasure pony on trails. The lady I purchased her from used her for lessons teaching English & also handicap lessons. She stated she was very thin when she purchased her this past May.
